Jerry Liguori devoted his life to raptors. From the moment he laid eyes on a group of Turkey Vultures soaring at eye level as a teenager, he was hooked. The experience drove Jerry towards a career in raptor biology, counting migrating raptors at hawk watches around the United States, conducting telemetry on raptors, monitoring raptor nests, and working on many raptor conservation projects. Through these experiences and with his keen, observant eyes and camera in hand, Jerry quickly became North America’s expert on raptor identification, publishing three must-have raptor field guides, a technical banding guide for raptor researchers, and countless magazine and technical articles.

Throughout Jerry’s career, he interacted with many raptor organizations, including HawkWatch International. During his time with HawkWatch International, Jerry built a revolutionary video-based raptor identification app; co-authored the landmark guidebook, The In-Hand Guide to Diurnal Raptors of North America; and put HawkWatch International on the map for its raptor identification resources, including its infamous Ask an Expert forum.

This long-standing relationship with the organization and its leadership led Jerry and his wife Sherry to collaborate with HawkWatch International about how Jerry’s work could continue in perpetuity. Prior to his passing, they made the decision to partner with HawkWatch International in the development of this scholarship to carry on Jerry’s legacy. In addition, Jerry donated his collection of photographs to HawkWatch International.

As a result of these choices, HawkWatch International, the Jerry Liguori Scholarship Committee, and the Liguori Family are pleased to share the 2024 Jerry Liguori Print. Each year, the Jerry Liguori Scholarship Committee will select an image to sell for a limited time only. Prints of this image are only available via HawkWatch International and for a limited time. Once the sale ends, the image will not be available for prints for the foreseeable future. A portion of each sale will directly support the scholarship created in Jerry Liguori's honor.
